GEO will not be complicit in the federal government’s attack on free speech and international workers.
GEO has an obligation to protect its international workers, especially in times like these. We have the following demands to the university:
- SECURE HOUSING FOR ALL
- Provide Rent Relief Packages for Students Without Funding.
- Advocate For Lease Flexibility With Landlords.
- Keep Lincoln And University Village Housing Units Open and Waive Rents.
- Support Graduate Student Food Pantry, Provide Food Vouchers and Childcare Enrichment.
- ACCESSIBLE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTHCARE FOR ALL
- Free, Accessible, Virtual Mental Health Services Across Borders.
- Proactive mental health outreach for precarious groups on campus.
- TRAVEL, VISA, WORK AUTHORIZATION AND LEGAL RIGHTS
- IPO Clarification On Immediate International Student Concerns.
- Immigration Services And Legal Clinic For International And Immigrant Students.
- Pay Legal Costs For Visa/Immigration Issues.
- Well-Staffed Emergency Helpline for International Students.
- Weekly Email And Website Information by International Programs Office.
- Emergency Relief Fund For International And Immigrant Students.
- EMPLOYMENT AND FUNDING
- Guarantee summer funding to all students.
- Financial security for current international student workers affected by border closures.
- Financial security for graduating students who cannot leave the US due to the situation.
- No retaliation for different rates of work or delivery across different timelines.
- Flexibility with students working from home countries and/or facing travel issues.
- Clarify status of online teaching appointments for workers whose visas expire.
If we fight together for our international friends and colleagues, we will make UMass a safer and more just place for all.
